Day 49/61

2 Thes 2:1-15

vs 1-4 Be careful what you believe. Deception will lead to destruction.

vs 5-12 Lies destroy lives.

vs 13-17 God wants all to be saved, He has planned on it. We can all share in the glory of Jesus Christ. Stand firm in the teachings of Christ. We should have eternal encouragement from this. This should strengthen you.

Day 48/61

1 Thes 5:1-28

vs 1-3 We do not know when the Lord is coming back, but we know that he is coming.

vs 4-11 Do not belong to the darkness. Their is a lot of crap that will steer you away from Christ the Light. Instead be self controlled. Put on faith hope and love to protect you from attacks. Encourage one another and build each other up.

vs 12-15 live in peace. Be patient. Don't be vengeful. Be kind.

vs 16-18 "Be joyful always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." This is something we are always learning in life. There will always be new circumstances and experiences but there will always be the same constant in God.

vs 19-22 Let the Holy Spirit do what is needed. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil.

vs 23-24 Allow God to work in your life to set you apart.

vs 25-28 Pray.

day 47/61

1 Thes 4:1-18

vs 1-2 live in order to please God, continue to do more for Him.

vs 3-8 Be sanctified. You might ask what this means. It means for you to be holy and set apart from this world. It then commands you to avoid sexual immorality by controlling your body. God did not call us to be impure but live a holy life.

vs 9-12 you have been taught to love each other, but do more. May your daily life win the respect of outsiders.

vs 13-18 The coming of the Lord will happen. Prepare for it, live your life like it will happen tomorrow. Be concerned and share the Lord with others.

day 46/61

1 Thes 1:1-10

vs 1 greeting

vs 2-3 thanking the Thessalonians for praying for him. I like vs 3 a lot because "their work they do was produced by the faith that they had, the labor was prompted by love and endurance by hope." They did not do these things out of duty but out of desire and love. What produces your works? Do you serve because you feel like you should? Or do you genuinely love helping others see the love of Christ through your actions?

vs 4-10 the Holy Spirit will help bring the Gospel power. You do not need to always worry about how you say it. The nerves you feel will be strengthened by the power of the Holy Spirit. Imitate the Lord. Because of your example your faith in God is being talked about in all kinds of different places. Your story is important. I love how they turned from idols to serve the true and living God.

day 45/61

Colossians 3:18-4:6

vs 18-21 This is the different relationship in the family. We all have our responsibilities to carry out in the relationship. They are not one sided, but work more as a team.

vs 22 Slaves, today this could be seen more as a worker and boss relationship.

vs 23-25 Whatever you do, do it for the Lord. Do it with all your heart.

4:1 Masters, treat your workers fair.

2-6 Devote yourself to prayer. Treat outsiders with grace, why would they ever come into the church if you are not loving them before hand.

day 44/61

Colossians 2:6-23
If you noticed i am going back a chapter. I noticed I skipped a passage yesterday so i am going back to cover it.

vs 6-7 Paul is talking to believers, who have accepted Christ. He is encouraging them to continue living in him. Everything they do should be built on that premise as we grow and are strengthened we should be overwhelmed with thankfulness.

vs 8 be careful about what teaching you follow. it could lead you away from Christ without knowing the effect.

vs 9-12 Christ is God. And we are given power through Christ . We are raised through faith.

13-15 You are alive through Christ. It was His death and resurrection that you are able to live.

16-19 Do not let anyone judge you as you are on a journey towards Christ.

vs 20-23 Do not base your faith on human teaching but on what is eternal.

Tuesday, May 11, 2010

Day 43/61

Colossians 3:5-17

vs 5-11 put to death the sinful desires that plague you. You walked in these ways in your old life, but now you must rid yourself. With your actions and your attitudes you are supposed to represent Christ. You are renewed in knowledge and in the image of your creator.

vs 12-14 the new creation looks like this: compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Forgive as Christ forgave you.

vs 15-17 the peace of Christ should rule your hears. the Word of Christ should dwell in you. And everything you do should be in the name of the Lord.

Day 42/61

It has definitely been way to long since I have updated this page. We will be getting back on route to finish this study within the next month. One thing I want to say, even though I have not addressed this Bible study in a while does not mean I have been completely absent from reading scripture. Do not neglect the Word of God.

Colossians 1:15-23

The Supremacy of Christ
vs 15-20- Christ is the image of God. When it talks about image it is referring to the character and integrity of God, not the physical image. Christ created all things, visible and invisible, by Him and for Him. Everything revolves around Christ. He is the head of the church. He is supreme above all things. Through sin (fall of Adam and Eve) we were separated from God. But it was through Christ and His sacrifice on the cross that reconciled us with Him.

vs 21-23 Christ's death was not in vain. It was done to present us as holy, without blemish and free from accusation. Stand firm in the gospel.
